Objectives
- To raise public awareness of the importance and significant benefits of forests, and to promote a sense of responsibility and active participation in the conservation and protection of natural resources.
- To foster environmental awareness among youth and students, encouraging them to value, love, protect, and actively participate in conserving natural resources.
- To strengthen cooperation among all relevant institutions and stakeholders, and to promote the understanding that the protection and conservation of natural resources is not the responsibility of any single institution, but a shared responsibility of everyone.
On August 2026, the Akpivath Neary Khmer Organization (ANKO), with support from ActionAid Cambodia, organized a tree planting activity under the theme “Let’s Join the Green Campaign” at Tteung Thngai Primary School, Ksetr Borey Village, Sandrea Commune, Phnom Kravanh District, Pursat Province.
The event was presided over by Mr. Thiam Sophat, Governor of the Phnom Kravanh District Board of Governors, and attended by representatives from the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Provincial Department of Education, Youth and Sport, district authorities, district military officers, teachers, students, Community Forestry Management Committee members, and community representatives. A total of 305 participants, including 141 women and girls, attended the event.
The activity aimed to raise public awareness of the importance and benefits of forests, promote a spirit of love and responsibility for natural resources among youth and students, and strengthen cooperation among relevant institutions and communities in protecting natural resources.
During the event, the Chief of Sandrea Commune expressed his sincere appreciation to ANKO, ActionAid Cambodia, and all relevant stakeholders for supporting and organizing the tree planting activity in Sandrea Commune. He emphasized that the selection of Tteung Thngai Primary School as the venue was a great honor for the commune.
Following the welcome remarks, Ms. Lov Saman, Director of the Akpivath Neary Khmer Organization, presented the organization’s background, vision, and key areas of work, particularly its focus on natural resource management and climate change.
Mr. Thiam Sophat, Governor of Phnom Kravanh District, expressed his pleasure at participating in the event and highlighted the importance of planting and protecting forests. He encouraged the younger generation to actively participate in environmental protection, address the impacts of climate change, increase green coverage, and conserve biodiversity for future generations.
The event also included a question-and-answer session on forests and natural resources, during which students demonstrated a good understanding of forest and environmental conservation by responding correctly to the questions.
Finally, tree seedlings were symbolically handed over to schools and the community, followed by tree planting activities. The tree species planted included rosewood (Thnong), Beng, Kranhung, Sokrom, and Peacock Flower trees.Overall, the activity made an important contribution to raising awareness, fostering a spirit of natural resource conservation, and promoting the active participation of youth, students, communities, and relevant institutions in protecting forests and the environment in a sustainable manner.
